Cold Weather Training

It’s winter, it’s cold and there’s new snow on the ground. What’s a SAR team to do? How about a night climb up our local ski hill – Pajarito Mountain at 10,420 feet! Perfect way to check out new snowshoes and other gear as well as practice cooking dinner in the snow and generally staying in shape for night time winter missions. Nine of us met at the base around 7:00 p.m. February 4th and my Jeep was saying it was 8 degrees outside. Fortunately, the wind was calm. The stars were glorious and we had fun sharing hot beverages and having belly flop slide competitions.
