Mission report by Alex Josephson
On the evening of Sunday August 17th, LAAFB received a call out right as our members were sitting down to make and eat dinner. A hiker had been injured up by Nambe Lake and needed some medical attention and extraction. Five of our beloved Brigadiers raced to assemble and respond, it was to be a litter haul out. Santa Fe’s Atalaya and Skyline SAR teams arrived first and immediately deployed on the trail.
Upon our arrival at the incident base, we immediately helped to set up the base with our Incident Commander, a fellow Brigadier. After setting up — and holding to hear whether we were to be deployed on an alternative developing mission which ultimately did not evolve into a call — we combined with another member of Skyline SAR and hit the trail to assist with the litter-carry. Fortunately, the injured hiker was with a large group who helped to move the hiker via Fireman Carries, down from Nambe lake back to the Winsor Trail, thus circumventing the hardest part of the litter carry. Atalaya and Skyline SAR arrived at and packaged the subject snugly into their litter. Our team met up with the combined Atalaya/Skyline/Hiker group shortly after the wilderness gate on the Winsor trail, upon which we took our turns carrying and directing the litter back to Ski Santa Fe, arriving right before dark.
Overall, a straight forward and simple mission but still important to the well being of the subject. As always, it was great to work with our neighboring teams, Atalaya and Skyline.
