Last night’s training at Pajarito Mountain included 6 brigadiers. Two were on snowshoes (personal) and the rest were on skis.
We started from the parking lot towards the bottom of Mother lift and continued to the bottom of Breathless trail. We hiked up breathless to Road 0, followed road 0 to One More Time trail, then back to Pussycat on Jeep Road. We then took a nice siesta near the pond.
The snow was shallow and faceted. This provided little stable ground for us to gain traction on. The snow literally collapsed under us causing us to slide downhill.
Comparing skis to snowshoes, everybody struggled a little with conditions. There was not a significant difference in speed while ascending. Joel and I took an adventurous route down while Kirk and Paula headed straight down Pussycat. Because of the different routes, we arrived at the bottom within a few minutes of each other. (Paul and Bonnie left earlier to ORDM).
