1.) Be very respectful to the subject and family. Definitely no names and nothing beyond age, gender and generally what they were doing. For example, “we were called to search for an overdue hiker.”
2.) If there was a death be generic about the location to keep “looky loos” from going to the subject’s location as the subject may not have been recovered yet. Families often consider the spot a sacred place and wouldn’t want non family knowing where that place is.
3.) Never write anything negative about anyone or anything. The place for that is in your face to face meetings or a more private electronic forum as a part of lessons learned.
4.) Some people don’t want their name or picture anywhere on the Internet. Therefore, don’t include team member names, or any names for that matter, in the report and if you use a picture I get permission from everyone in the picture before posting or blur out the persons face.
