Matt Holmes has started a yearly tradition for the Brigade where we do a nighttime climb up Pajarito Ski Hill. The climb is approximately 1,000 feet up over a mile or so. This year we did the climb on February 2nd. Ten members came out to climb using snowshoes, skinned skis, micro spikes and even four paws!
The climb is meant to get members together and get to know each other better, test new gear or just get out and practice working in the cold and dark. Working in the cold and dark is a common occurrence for SAR responders.
The weather was awesome! Winds were calm with temperatures in the 20’s and clear skies. Here a member took a great picture of Orion over one of the runs.
I love going out in the dark. The world takes on a totally different look. Many thanks to Matt for organizing the event and a good time was had by all!
And some folks take the easy way down while the rest of us snowshoe…
