Cascade Rescue Litter Setup Tutorial Videos

The series of videos below demonstrate how to setup the Brigade Cascade Rescue Litter for use. Packaging a patient in the litter is not covered in these videos. Pour your favorite beverage, pop some popcorn and sit back for riveting entertainment. Ok, riveting is NOT a turn I would use…

The primary advantage of the Cascade Rescue litter is it separates into two pieces for easier carry by rescuers. Each half can be strapped to a rescuer’s backpack and and a third can carry the wheel. The first video in this series gives an introduction to the litter and demonstrates how to put the two halves of the litter together.

Once the litter is together we can install the handles for use with the wheel. Cascade designed the handles so they can be installed at several different angles depending on the terrain allowing the litter tenders to remain in a comfortable position.

The video here shows how to install the wheel.  For easy patient loading you want to load the patient with the litter on the ground without the wheel.  Then, lift the litter with patient and lift the wheel into position under the patient.  When lifting the litter with a patient, lift using the side rails and not the handles as the length of the handles adds some leverage and seems to place too much stress on the litter.

The litter can also be used as a sled in the snow. This video shows how to install the handles to use the litter as a sled. Don’t forget to install the runners.

Here’s one idea for how to pack it all up for storage and transport in vehicles to incident base.
